100 THIEVES vs GEN.G DREAMHACK MASTERS SPRING 2020: NORTH AMERICA BETTING PREVIEW

Gen.G will kick off their DreamHack Masters Spring 2020 campaign on Tuesday when they meet 100 Thieves for the second time since the start of April.

Damian “daps” Steele and co. enter the tournament with their heads held high following a commanding run through ESL One: Road to Rio – North America, where they hoisted the trophy and pocketed US $18,000 in winnings. Gen.G also attended FLASHPOINT Season 1, where they reached the playoffs but lost to Cloud9 (0-2) and HAVU (1-2) to finish in fifth-sixth place.

Gen.G have improved markedly since the arrival of Hansel “BnTeT” Ferdinand from TYLOO in January. They now sit 14th in the CS:GO global rankings, which is the team’s all-time highest placement.

100 Thieves have struggled somewhat since they reached the quarter-finals of IEM Katowice in February. Aaron “AZR” Ward and co. finished fifth at ESL Pro League Season 11: North America in March and most recently had to settle for a sixth-place finish at ESL One: Road to Rio – North America. Although not particularly bad placements, they are well below of 100T’s high standards.

Since signing the Renegades roster in October 2019, 100 Thieves have endured a slow decline in the global rankings. Formerly the sixth-best team in the world, they slipped to 11th place with the latest ranking update on May 18.

It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly is causing 100T’s struggles. Based on their recent matches against Team Liquid and Envy, however, it would be fair to say Jay “Liazz” Tregillas and AZR are the ones to blame. Liazz ended the match against Liquid with a 0.83 rating, while AZR produced only 0.81. The Australian duo were slightly better against Envy, but their 0.90 and 0.86 ratings are nothing to write home about.

Even if we look further back, AZR and Liazz both failed to reach positive ratings in 100 Thieves’ 0-2 loss to Gen.G in the group stage of ESL One: Road to Rio. On the bright side, 100T tend to win whenever Liazz and AZR play at least half-decent, although those rare moments only happen against much weaker sides.

100 THIEVES vs GEN.G DREAMHACK MASTERS SPRING 2020: NORTH AMERICA BETTING PREDICTIONS

The last time these teams met was just over a month ago in the group at ESL One: Road to Rio – North America, where Gen.G came out ahead with a clean sweep. While 100 Thieves put up some resistance on Dust II, where they led 8-7 at half-time, AZR and his crew fell apart on CT-side, where they won only two rounds.

Not only do Gen.G have all the form in their favour, they also have Chris “Elmapuddy” Tebbit as head coach. The Australian tactician faced 100T’s current roster (formerly Renegades) several times during his 10-month spell with ORDER, so he should have a very good insight on how they operate.

Nevertheless, online bookmakers have 100 Thieves priced as favourites to win here, which makes no sense to us. Although there is a chance we could witness a resurgence from 100T on Tuesday, we would not count on it, at least not before we see some improvement from AZR and Liazz.

With $2.02 offered on Gen.G, we don’t have to think twice before picking our winner for this match. An in-play bet on over 2.5 maps can also be considered if 100 Thieves manage to get a run on Vertigo, where they hold a 71% win rate compared to Gen.G’s 20%.
