?OMG and FunPlus Phoenix will face off on Tuesday, August 16, in the first fixture of the LoL Pro League (LPL) 2022 Summer Playoffs.

OMG are the most surprising LPL team from a positive perspective, and even though many believed OMG will do well this split, they’ve far exceeded our expectations. Finishing season 8-8 is quite impressive considering how stacked the LPL is, but it’s not like OMG don’t deserve to be where they are.

Overall, this is a very solid squad with good players in all positions. Of the five, mid laner Lin “Creme” Jian stands out as the star player even though his performance stats don’t look very impressive on paper.

Deng “shanji” Zi-Jian is another player who deserves some recognition, mainly because he was much better than we thought he would be this year. Although he is not an elite-level top laner, shanji is good enough to go toe-to-toe with any player in the league.

FunPlus Phoenix have dragged their way into the playoffs with a 7-9 record, which is only slightly worse than OMG, but FPX’s performances – especially towards the end of the split – have not been too impressive. This team has many issues, primarily their poor macro and over-aggression, which has put them in tough spots.

FunPlus Phoenix are still a good team, but they sometimes get a little ahead of themselves, which can be exploitable. Although we wouldn’t say that OMG’s macro is perfect, they tend to make fewer mistakes and will take opportunities to get ahead if presented.

Talent-wise FunPlus Phoenix might be slightly better, but based on the teams’ performance on the Summoner’s Rift, we would rather be on OMG’s side for this affair.

Both Bilibili Gaming and Invictus Gaming will enter their week four match-up with the exact same record, with both teams sitting at 1-4 in 14th and 15th place, respectively.

Bilibili Gaming have lost their last three matches to Anyone’s Legend, Top Esports and Edward Gaming, after they started their Summer Split with a loss to LNG Esports and their only win to date over Ultra Prime coming in week two. This is an underwhelming start for the team who finished in eighth-place in the LPL Spring Split and made it to the final eight in the playoffs.

Bilibili Gaming have added Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin from the LPL Spring and Mid-Season Invitational champions, Royal Never Give Up, but it seems that the change has not improved this Bilibili Gaming roster, as the team has gone backwards this Split compared to their really good Spring Split.

Invictus Gaming have also lost their last three games to the exact same teams that Bilibili Gaming has in their last three. Invictus Gaming, much like Bilibili Gaming, started their Split with a loss and registered their only win in week two, giving us a good form reference to go off for this match. Invictus Gaming struggled in the Spring Split, finishing 14th of 17 with an overall record of 5-11, so with the slow start that they have begun the Summer Split with, it isn’t really surprising where they sit in the standings after three weeks of the Summer Split.

With both teams struggling to start the Split, we should see a good match up here between two teams looking for their second win. We see some value in the total maps market, with over 2.5 maps paying $2 with esports betting sites.

The second match of the day brings us the reigning LPL champions, Royal Never Give Up, taking on OMG with both teams in the mid-table battle owning records of 2-1 and 2-3, respectively.

RNG have started off the Summer Split rather slowly with all three of their matches going the distance to three maps, with the reigning champions running out victorious over Weibo Gaming and FPX but they lost their last match against Victory Five. The reigning LPL and Mid-Season Invitational champions have made one change from their Spring Split to their Summer Split with the addition of Chen “Breathe” Chen in the top-lane taking over from Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin who departed to play for Bilibili Gaming. With RNG starting quite slow, this could be a danger game for them as OMG enter this match on a two-game win streak.

OMG started the LPL Summer Split on a three-game losing streak but have since won their last two games in a row over LNG Esports and LGD Gaming. OMG only just missed out on playoffs in the Spring Split after their team contracted COVID-19 and had to take two weeks off. This meant that they played their last three matches over three days to end the Split, where they lost all three. If OMG can get a good run of health and a bit of luck this Split, the boys from OMG could easily push for playoffs and could surprise a team like RNG in this match.

With all three of RNG’s matches going to three maps and OMG in some great form leading into the match, we believe that over 2.5 maps will be the best play for this match-up.

The first match of the day brings us two teams that finished alongside each other in the Spring edition of the LPL back in late April. OMG finished in 11th place with a 6-10 record, whilst Ultra Prime finished with a 5-11 record in 12th place with both teams just missing out on playoffs.

Ultra Prime will enter LPL Summer 2022 with one change being made to their roster with their new top-lane player Zhang “Zoom” Xing-Ran will take over the top-lane from their previous top-lane player in Zhang “zs” Shuai. “Zoom” brings his talents over to Ultra Prime after finishing second in the LPL Spring Split with Top Esports but wanted the chance to play regularly instead of sitting on the bench for Top Esports. With the experience and talent that “Zoom” brings to the young Ultra Prime roster, there could be some significant improvement throughout this Summer Split.

OMG begin the Summer Split with the same roster that they finished the Spring Split with back in April. During the Spring Split, OMG were able to take a 2-0 win over Top Esports being one of their best results of the Spilt. OMG were very unlucky during the Spring Split after all of their team members contracted COVID-19 late in the season, meaning they missed two weeks worth of matches and they had to play their last three games back-to-back where they lost all three and lost their chance to make playoffs.

This match should be a close contest and therefore we are backing that we see all three maps in this best-of-three. Over 2.5 maps with GG Bet is $1.90 and we see that as a good bet between two evenly matched teams.

The second of our matches bring us the 4th place LNG Esports and 8th place Bilibili Gaming from the LPL Spring Split. LNG Esports finished with an 11-5 record and Bilibili Gaming finished with a 9-7 record.

LNG Esports will begin the Summer Split with the exact same roster that they finished in their second-highest finish in the LPL ever, where they ended up finishing in 5th-6th in the playoffs. LNG Esports also finished equal with Top Esports, Weibo Gaming and JD Gaming, with all of their record being the exact same with 11-5, only being separated by round differential. LNG Esports will be looking to try and move into the top two or solo third with another improved Split this Summer.

Bilibili Gaming will also have the exact same roster this Split that they had in the Spring Split. This will be the second Split that this roster will play together as four of their five members were only signed seven months ago, on the same day back on the 15th of December of 2021, therefore they have only played the Spring Split together. This Split we could see massive improvement with the Bilibili Gaming managing to make the playoffs in their first Split together. Now, given the time they have now had to play together and learn the way they want to play, BiliBili Gaming will improve and that will definitely have them in the conversation for the playoffs once again.

With Bilibili Gaming having room to improve and LNG Esports still being one of the better teams in the LPL, we see this match going to three maps.
